Dear SMU Faculty and Staff

On behalf of the staff at Li Ka Shing Library, welcome or welcome back to SMU.

Over the last couple of months, we implemented new initiatives for our different user groups.  Below are some of the changes we have introduced for you and your colleagues. 

In Support of Teaching , your Research Librarians created  “research navigators ” , guides for topics at a school, subject or course level, many designed in partnership with individual faculty.  Contact libresearch@smu.edu.sg to suggest additional guides. 

The U.S. Embassy presented the library a donation of 150 titles in American Literature.  The new U.S. Ambassador, David Adelman attended the formal presentation at the library. The donated titles are inter-shelved with the library’s LifeStyle Collection.

In Support of Research,   the Institutional Repository Team is collaborating with Integrated Information Technology Services (IITS) to revamp the existing SMU Repository platform with a new interface, new name and improved internal and external access to the research and scholarly works of SMU

SMU is the first university in Singapore to participate in the global ProQuest Dissertation and Theses (PQDT) database and to allow open access to students’ dissertations and theses through PQDT.

In Support of Collaboration, the library offers a new POSTGRADUATE SUITE on Level 5, to serve as a study, collaboration and social networking place for all postgraduates from around the University. Please encourage your postgraduates to visit it.

For ALL Users, we are creating an Oral History Collection on the establishment of SMU t o mark the 10 th anniversary of SMU, at the suggestion of SMU Chairman Ho Kwon Ping. In conjunction with the Office of Corporate Communications and IITS, we are interviewing the pioneer faculty, officials and students.  Contact libIR for more information.
