Donated Collection
The Singapore Management University Library was recently the recipient of a comprehensive set of law reports and reference materials donated jointly by Mr VK Rajah SC and the partners of Rajah & Tann as well as Mr Quentin Loh SC (who is presently also a partner of Rajah & Tann).
The University is particularly grateful to Messrs Rajah and Loh for their kindness and generosity which will aid immeasurably in the teaching of law as well as the development of legal scholarship within SMU in general and its Law Department in particular. Both are in fact leading lights in the legal fraternity. Mr Rajah is Managing Partner of Rajah & Tann, one of the largest Singapore law firms which also has an international presence as part of Andersen Legal. Mr Rajah was in fact among the first cohort of lawyers to be appointed as a Senior Counsel (the equivalent of a Queen's Counsel in England). He has been actively involved in commercial practice and is highly regarded as a litigator of the first rank. Also an active scholar, Mr Rajah was, during his undergraduate days, a member of the Singapore Jessup Moot Team which brought home the Jessup Cup for the very first time in Singapore's history. Graduating with high honours from NUS, Mr Rajah also took an LLM with first class honours from the University of Cambridge.
Mr Loh is also a Senior Counsel, who is well-known for his expertise in both insurance and reinsurance law as well as construction law, amongst other areas. Before joining Rajah & Tann, Mr Loh was the Managing Partner at the firm of Cooma, Lau and Loh, which he co-founded. The present donation in fact comes from the law library of this lastmentioned firm, painstakingly built up over the years and which has an extremely rich provenance, including (by way of example) the late Justice of Appeal M Karthigesu's library.
