Call Numbers


Library uses the Library of Congress classification for the Call #.

Call # is printed on the spine or front page of the library item.

Library items are arranged in ascending order of the Call # in the respective sections.

Purpose of the Call #:
  1. Enable users to easily locate the item on shelf
  2. Group library items by subject

Example of ascending order
HC29 INT 2002 comes before the below because 'C' before 'D'
HD28 ADV comes before the below because '0' (i.e. 28 = 28.0) comes before '1'
HD28.15 KEL comes before the below because '1' comes before '6'
HD28.6 ETM 1993 -

The above is a screen capture of a catalogue record.
Location reflects "CR" which means Course Reserve.
Status reflects "Not on Loan" which means it is not borrowed.
