Code of Conduct
General
- Library admits only SMU persons, registered members and approved guests of SMU.
SMU card / membership card is not transferable.
SMU card / membership card must be produced whenever requested by security staff or Library staff.
Library staff has the right to ask any person to leave the library if he/she does not comply with the Rules & Code of Conduct. - Conduct prejudicial to the proper use of the Library is forbidden e.g. fighting, behavior unbecoming.
Library will take appropriate action(s) against offenders.
Click here for Student Disciplinary System. - Mutilation and theft of library materials are offences punishable by law and, in the case of all SMU persons, are also disciplinary offences.

Mutilation should be reported before borrowing.
Users are responsible for all loans charged to their accounts and materials must be returned in good condition.
Materials found damaged or mutilated will have to be paid for by the borrower. - Eating and snacking (including sweets) is allowed only at the Level 2 Cafe.
Liquids in closed containers are permitted.
No food (though may not be consumed) is allowed in the Library.

Mobiles should be switched to vibration mode whenever in the Library.
Users are to move away and speak softly when using mobile phone so as not to disturb the other users. - The Library will not be held responsible for the loss of any personal belongings.
Library staff has the right to remove any item or personal belongings left within Library premises if deemed necessary. - Library staff has the right to ask user to show all books and personal belongings at the exit if deemed required.
- Library privileges are suspended if:
1. Outstanding fines
are not settled
2. Users received disciplinary action(s). - SMU card / membership card, when lost, must be reported immediately to prevent unauthorized use.

User is held responsible for all loans charged to the account till the time the card is reported lost.
External member may replace membership card with the Library at a non-refundable fee of S$50.00.
Valid SMU card or membership card must be presented when borrowing. - All outstanding balances, fines
and overdue items must be paid or returned when due to the Library or SMU Office of Finance as specified.
- Users are required to notify the Library immediately of any changes to their particulars (e.g. postal address, email address) @ Customer Service Centre / Call us @ 65-68280355 / Email us.
