Our Customer Service Centre on level 2 of the library handles circulation matters and library transactions such as loan, reservation, renewal, fine payment, and collection of items requested via Document Delivery Service & Inter-library Loan. For questions about items borrowed or general enquiries such as locating materials in the library, please feel free to approach the library staff on duty at desk or email your questions to us or call us at 68280355. |
My Library Account Enquiry
allows library users to access their borrowing records online and to renew items borrowed online.
Research and Reference Services
|
The primary focus of the services is to assist SMU students, faculty and staff in identifying and retrieving information in both electronic and print formats for their research, study and/or teaching purposes. The research and reference services offered encompass answering users' enquiries, recommending the most appropriate resources to consult, providing guidance on the use of library resources and information tools, in particular the subscription databases, and conducting searches for users. |
Enquiries and requests for assistance may be submitted to the librarians either:
- In person at the Information Services Centre located on level 3 of the library on weekdays (Mon to Fri) from 12:00pm - 6:00pm.
- Online via Ask The Library.
- By email. For complex questions that cannot be answered with suggested sources and search strategies, a consultation with a librarian will be scheduled.
- By telephone at 68280355.
Research Consultation
SMU students, faculty and staff who need assistance with database searching or customised help with their research projects may make an appointment with a librarian who specialises in the subject field.
Not sure which desks to go to with your questions? Please approach our staff at any desks and we will direct you to someone who can assist you.
Library Orientation and Training
![]() |
The library regularly conducts orientation and guided tours for new SMU students, staff and faculty. To enable students to become increasingly independent users of information resources, our librarians also conduct hands-on training sessions for SMU students on database searching and library instruction that focuses on topical research where they learn about information resources in their subject areas in addition to basic research skills. Students, faculty and staff may email their suggestions for courses to the library. |
Course Support Service
Library staff from the Course Support Service work closely with teaching faculty to deliver course content (course pack and reading list) to students which includes obtaining the necessary copyright clearance from the relevant authorities. Please refer to the faculty services section for more details.
