Course Reserves

- Books in Course Reserves (CR) are recommended course textbooks and are located in the Course Reserves Section on Level 2.
- Students can only borrow 1 CR item (plus its accompanying item, if any) at a time for 2 hours / overnight / over the weekend.
- Overdue fine for CR is S$1.00/hr.
- No reservations or renewal of CR item.


Loan Privileges and Fines

- How many? Total loan entitlement for Masters students is 20 items and for PhD students is 40 items.
- How long? Different item types have different loan periods.
- How much? Fines are instituted to encourage the prompt return of library items for the convenience of all our users.

- view / cancel your requests (holds)
- view your reading history

Document Delivery Service & Interlibrary Loan

Looking for something for your research that you can't find in the library? You may contact our Research Librarians at libresearch@smu.edu.sg to explore alternative resources. Arrangement can also be made to get a book, journal article or a book chapter for you through Interlibrary Loan. This service is free and the requested material must be for research relating to your coursework, projects or assignments. You will be responsible for the returned of the borrowed item, including any fines that are incurred.

Please provide as much details as possible on the requested item to ensure you get the right one in the shortest possible time. Take note of the types of materials which cannot be obtained through interlibrary loan or document delivery service.


New Materials Recommendation

You may recommend new materials to the library for purchase considerations. Please provide as many details as possible about the item / title, including author's name, year of publication, publisher's name and the ISBN if available.


Publishing of Dissertations and Theses

Dissertations and theses by postgraduate students undertaking PhD and Masters by Research programmes will be placed in the SMU Repository for access by SMU community.

Students will need to submit a signed copy of the Publishing Agreement of Dissertations and Theses form to their department with their dissertation/thesis. The form is to indicate if the dissertation or thesis is to be submitted to the ProQuest Dissertations and Theses (PQDT) database for open access or open access with an embargo period. The PQDT is a recognized repository for dissertations and theses by institutions around the world.

Off-Campus Access Services

The Off-Campus Access Services allow SMU community to access e-resources remotely.


Facilities

The Library provides facilities such as PC terminals, copiers, print and scan stations, book drops and borrowing stations, AV viewing rooms, project rooms, as well as a reading room and a training room.


Postgraduate Suite

The new Postgraduate Suite is located on Level 5 to the right of the training room . It is a designated multipurpose area set aside for postgraduate students.


Copying and Printing Facilities

Photocopying and printing facilities are available at a fee within the library premises. Payment is by EZlink and Cash Cards. All photocopying and printing must comply with the provisions of the Copyright Act.
