SMU LIBRARIES COLLECTIONS

SMU Libraries collections provide relevant, responsive Library and open resources to further research, teaching, and self-directed learnings needs of the SMU community. The collections consist of physical and e-resources. The e-resources are accessible 24/7 through the SMU Libraries’ website.

The physical collection at the Li Ka Shing Library is interdisciplinary and cover the broad fields of business, economics and commerce with special strengths in finance, trade, accounting, management and international business.

The physical collection at the Kwa Geok Choo Law Library includes Singapore primary and secondary sources, access to materials of the main jurisdictions of the common law that has influenced Singapore law, US and EU law and international law materials.

ACCESSIBILITY OF E-RESOURCES

Due to licensing agreement regulations, most library e-resources may be accessed only by SMU faculty, students and staff. All SMU databases should be used for academic and personal applications only. No information may be accessed for a corporation or job, for profit or for a third party. For more information, please read the Appropriate Use of Electronic Resources policy.

LIFESTYLE COLLECTION

This collection located at level 2 of Li Ka Shing Library includes a selection of close to 1200 leisure titles in fiction (contemporary, classic and regional), travel, food, hobbies, personal development and health and fitness.

SPECIAL COLLECTION

Special Collection refers to print resources and other physical media resources that have restricted access for purposes of preservation. Resources in the Special Collection include:

  • Selected SMU publications, including faculty publications
  • SMU dissertations / theses
  • Rare materials
  • Resources in a fragile physical condition

Requests for the use of resources from the Special Collection is subject to approval by a Research Librarian, with the following terms and conditions:

  • Resource must be used at the Services Desk within the library
  • Resource may not be photocopied

DONATED COLLECTION

SMU Libraries will not accept ad hoc donations of titles in all formats from the SMU community or the general public. Considerations may be given to titles that are relevant to the University’s focus areas and titles that enhance the Libraries’ collections, for example, books written by faculty or rare/out of print titles that are aligned with our selection principles. Financial donations from organisations will be referred to and administered by the SMU Office of Advancement.
