Dear SMU community
How has the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) impacted global trade?
In 2013, the idea of a trade route connecting China with the rest of the world was proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. This initiative was estimated to involve over 68 countries (40% of the world’s GDP) and 65% of the world’s population. Since then, the potential promises and pitfalls of this initiative have been widely discussed and debated.
