Gradually but steadily, more organisations across the private, public and non-profit sectors are implementing AI-enabled information systems and physical machines into their everyday work processes. What happens when an employee transitions to doing their everyday work with the assistance of an AI-enabled “smart machine?” What is involved in making this happen within an organisation? How are companies actually combining the capabilities of AI-enabled systems/machines with human capabilities? And what are important implications as a result of this happening across more and more organisations?
These are the topics explored in this new book, “Working With AI: Real Stories of Human-Machine Collaboration,” co-authored by Tom Davenport and Steven Miller (published by MIT Press). The book contains 29 real-world case studies of people doing their everyday work with AI-enabled systems as well as seven insights chapters synthesizing insights and exploring implications.

Book co-author Steven Miller will facilitate the panel session where prominent executives from government, industry and the university discuss their take-aways from the book and their broader thoughts on the topic of “Working with AI” as it increasingly becomes part of the way we go about our daily work.

About the Co-Author attending this event, Professor Emeritus Steven Miller
Steven Miller is Professor Emeritus of Information Systems at Singapore Management University. He served as Founding Dean of SMU’s School of Computing and Information Systems for over 13 years and served as SMU’s Vice Provost for Research for 8 years. He continues to advise companies and government agencies in Singapore on digital transformation, AI applications and deployments, and organizational learning and capability building.
