SMU Libraries Curate: Humour

In 2021, an NFT doodle called “The first ever edition of Rick and Morty cryptoart” featuring the cartoon sitcom characters Rick and Morty (surprise!) sold for USD 150,000. Today, the meme coin Shiba Inu has a market valuation of USD 6 billion. That’s not even the meme coin with the highest valuation. Doge coin, the daddy of meme coins, has a market capitalisation of over USD 9 billion! Can you gaze at the doge in its little eyes and see the glitter of USD 9 billion?

These figures could perhaps hint at the enigmatic value of humour. It is a curious thing. Humans analyse it, study it, enjoy it, practice it, and draw on its power.
