“You’re good at this for a woman”:
A panel on gender discrimination at the workplace
Date: 8 March 2024, Friday
Time: 6:30PM - 8:30PM
Venue: Singapore Management University, Li Ka Shing Library, Quiet Area, Level 5
Goal 5 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Equal opportunities in the workplace is a key concern and the government has taken steps in this area with the endorsement of the White Paper on Singapore Women’s Development as a whole-of-nation plan to build a fairer and more inclusive society and the acceptance of the Workplace Fairness Legislation (WFL). One of the goals of the WFL is to “prohibit workplace discrimination in respect of sex, marital status, pregnancy status, caregiving responsibilities”, areas in which generally women have taken on a higher and more demanding responsibility.
In celebration of International Women’s Day 2024, join us for a crucial and thought provoking panel discussion on gender discrimination in the workplace. Moderated by Dr Flocy Joseph, Head of Commercial, SMU Executive Development and featuring notable alumnae Nadia Ahmad Samdin (LLB 2013) Member of Parliament, Dr Jaclyn Lee (MBA 2015), Chief Human Resources Officer at Certis and Sandra Lim, Managing Director of Verian, hear their thoughts and ideas on how gender discrimination can be tackled at the workplace and policy level and how such changes may affect future generations of women leaders in terms of achieving full gender parity.
