The transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) has permeated various sectors, and academia is no exception. Recognising the impact AI can have on the entire research workflow, SMU Libraries proudly announce AI for Research Week, set to take place from 28 to 30 May 2024. This three-day event aims to bring together postgraduates, faculty members, researchers, academics, and librarians from Singapore Management University (SMU) and other institutions in Singapore and beyond to explore and discuss how AI can enhance research efficiency and effectiveness.
AI for Research Week features renowned experts, including Dr. Joel Chan from the University of Maryland, Michael Upshall from ConsultMU Ltd, and Dr Lucy Lu Wang from the University of Washington, who will deliver insightful talks on topics such as AI-enhanced literature search and synthesis, AI in publishing and peer review, and AI-powered systems for scholarly search and content production.
Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in interactive workshops led by SMU librarians to try out and explore several AI tools such as Undermind.ai, Elicit, Whisper API, Atlas.ti, and more! (Note: these workshops are currently full, but you can still register to be on the waiting list)
One session, jointly organized with the SMU Researcher Club, will discuss the experiences, insights, and opinions of researchers on the incorporation of AI tools in the manuscript writing process. AI for Research Week will be concluded in a roundtable discussion featuring Michael Upshall, Dr Lucy Lu Wang, and Asst Prof Lim How Khang from CCLAW. The panel will explore and debate on the impact of increasing AI use on research workflows, quality, evaluation, and the skills required for researchers in the age of AI.
