05 Aug 2026
Journal Citation Report 2026 available

By Yeo Pin Pin, Head, Research Services

Clarivate has released the 2026 edition of the Journal Citation Report (JCR). You are able to view the new Journal Impact Factors (JIF) for the journals included in Web of Science. JCR provides journal metrics for 22,643 journals, with 521 journals receiving a JIF for the first time.

Click to access JCR via SMU Libraries subscription.

How is JIF calculated?

For example, Academy of Management Journal Journal Impact Factor (JIF) is 12.8 (up from 10.5 last year). It takes the number of citations in 2025 to articles published in 2023 and 2024, then divides by the number of citable items in 2023 and 2024.

How JIF is caculated

Journal Citation Indicator (JCI) was introduced in 2021 as a complementary metric for journals. JCI uses 3 years of publications instead of 2 years for JIF and uses the Category Normalized Citation Impact to normalize the citations for the subject field.

Which countries publish the highest number of journals in JCR?

The United States of America (6,072) and England (4,758) remain the top 2 countries with the largest number of journals. China (677) is now among the top 10 countries by number of journals. Heaney (2026) noted that China had a 23% increase in the number of Gold Open Access journals.

Singapore has some journals included in JCR, including

  • Asia Pacific Journal of Management (Asia Academy of Management / Springer) JIF 9.7
  • Annals Academy of Medicine Singapore (Academy of Medicine Singapore) JIF 2.9
  • Contemporary Southeast Asia (ISEAS) JIF 2.2
  • Singapore Journal of Tropical Geography (NUS Department of Geography / Wiley) JIF 2.3
