In our continuous effort to support SMU authors who wish to publish open access, SMU Libraries have been actively exploring various initiatives with different publishers. In the past, we announced deals with Cambridge University Press and Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). We are now delighted to announce that, starting from 2025, an open access publishing agreement has been established with Elsevier to help support SMU authors with their Article Processing Charges (APCs).
What is the deal about?
Under this agreement, the cost of open access publishing is either fully covered or reduced. Articles that are accepted for publication in hybrid journals between 1st January 2025 and 31st December 2026, eligible SMU corresponding authors have the choice to publish their works open access at no cost (limited by annual quota) or at a discount.
Visit this link to find the participating journals in this agreement deal.
How to publish open access?
- Step 1 -- Once article is accepted for publication, SMU corresponding author will receive an email containing a link to the "post acceptance author journey".
- Step 2 -- Review affiliation and funder details. Based on this information, personalised publishing options including any agreement that SMU corresponding author may be eligible for will be shown.
- Step 3 -- Confirm publishing choices and complete the post acceptance journey.
- Step 4 -- SMU Libraries will validate eligibility for the agreement.
- Step 5 -- SMU corresponding author and other co-authors will receive an email to confirm whether the APC is waived or payable.
(Note: The number of free APC quota included under the agreement is fixed and will be allocated on first-come-first-served, based on date of acceptance)
