Welcome to 2018-19 Academic Year!

I am delighted to share with you highlights of some of the innovative initiatives SMU Libraries have launched in recent times to benefit SMU’s transformational education and research.

Reading List Management System is a brand new initiative to help faculty with the creation, management and delivery of their reading lists via eLearn and to facilitate students access their readings in a seamless way.

We have been collaborating with CTE and faculty to support both the Smart textbook initiative as well as the e-textbooks for the reserve collection to enhance students’ learning experience and add value to faculty’s teaching.

If you haven’t been to the Level 4 of the Li Ka Shing Library recently, come and experience the new art displays showcasing SMU art collection, most of which are donations, located in different parts of the campus. The display creates a conducive and inspiring environment for library users and visitors to SMU.

Preparing for law internship

SMU’s Law Society, The Bar, and SMU law librarians organised a legal research workshop in April to prepare students prior to their internship experience.

The workshop addressed key concerns in legal research that law firms in Singapore identified. Student mentors who have completed their internship were invited to assist the students during the workshop.

Celebrating SMU scholarship exhibition

What do Faculty write about?

SMU librarians curated an exhibition of books authored or edited by SMU faculty. The exhibition was on display from 15th August to 8th September in both Li Ka Shing Library and Kwa Geok Choo Law Library.

Miss the exhibition? Click to view the full list of titles.

#SMUGrabBook

What happened to donated books from faculty and Schools?

SMU librarians organised a #SMUGrabBook event just before the start of the 2018-2019 academic year. Textbooks and fiction books donated by faculty and Schools were up for grab. 107 books were snapped up within the hour.

Did not get any books at all? Fret not, #SMUGrabBook might return.
